wheat is nice and all for fuel, but i think you'll find that algae has certain advantages (no tractors, no fertilizers, higher productivity per acre to start). a good summary of what is available is on wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biodiesel
there are companies in the US that have come at this from the other direction, using algae pools as a air filters for carbon-laden exhaust gasses from factories. the lucky waste from the filtration process just happens to be biodeisel http://www.greenfuelonline.com/
